Radiant Orchid is Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2014.
A vibrant purple with pink undertones, this is certainly an eye-catching colour. Pantone describes it as “An invitation to innovation, Radiant Orchid encourages expanded creativity and originality, which is increasingly valued in today’s society.”
Although my first reaction was that I’m not madly keen on this colour – it reminds me a little too much of the late 90’s when everything was shades of purple/lilac, I love a bit of creativity and originality so am willing to be swayed… here are some tips for adding this trend into your interior design.
Go subtle: If you don’t want to go all out and you have a relatively neutral decor – this colour works well with most neutrals and even dark greys and olive greens – then adding some accents through cushions, rugs, lighting etc can work well.

Go Bold: If you want to embrace Radiant Orchid fully then make a statement with boldly painted or wallpapered walls. One for those who love this enough to keep it in their homes on a permanent basis – lets face it, no one wants to be repainting their walls every year!

So what do you think? Can you see yourself adding a bit of on-trend Orchid to your interiors this year? Or is it all just a bit too purple for you?
